Wheels
As has been previously noted, our HSE is fitted with 22” wheels. They do suit the car very well aesthetically and cause many positive comments. However, while it’s difficult to get hard evidence, it is known that the 22” wheels, being significantly heavier than smaller fitted options, have a detrimental impact on the range of the I-Pace. The ride quality is probably also affected but being on air suspension, we have never noticed this as being an issue. The weight and extra rolling resistance of the larger wheels could have around 5% impact on range. Certainly, when comparing efficiency figures with other owners, those with smaller wheels get much closer to the quoted range figures. The fact that the suspension is not noticeably affected is testament to the tuning of the air shocks. I remember distinctly the difference that large wheels can make when I test drove a Nissan Pathfinder that had been upgraded from 20” to 22” wheels. The 22” wheels made it skittish and really uncomfortable where the 20” wheels made it a very subtle and comfortable ride.
